As the centerpiece of Appalachian’s campus, the Plemmons Student Union facilitates the mission of the University by providing opportunities for students, faculty and staff to participate in a variety of programs that enhance learning and foster an appreciation for college life and campus diversity.
The W. H. Plemmons Student Union opened in 1967 then was renovated and expanded in 1995, 2004 and 2012. The Plemmons Student Union is supported exclusively by student fees, and is intended, primarily, to serve the educational, social and recreational needs of the Students at Appalachian State University. It serves as a central hub for student activities at Appalachian State University and houses many departments and clubs pertaining to student life. Visit our Student Union webpage for more details.
All ASU students and their guests are offered a uniquely original campus experience: Legends!
20 years ago, in a remodeled Winn Dixie Supermarket, Legends became the answer to the question, "Where can students go to safely socialize and be entertained without driving mountain roads at night?" Legends is the only facility of its kind in North Carolina and research has not found another university in the Eastern U.S. duplicating its services. Its goals are to provide ASU students the best entertainment, be it musical, comedy, theater, etc. from both regional and national artists. Previous performers have included Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Outkast, Jimmy Fallon, Widespread Panic, Nickel Creek, Collective Soul, Carrot Top, the Wailers, Edwin McCain, and Hootie and the Blowfish. Nearly each weekend it houses a dance night featuring a DJ and the latest Hip-Hop party music. Visit the Legends page to find out more.
