Summer Wisdom

Assistant Director of Alternative Service Experience (ASE)

Summer Wisdom is the Assistant Director of Alternative Service Experience (ASE) within the Appalachian & Community Together (ACT) foundation. ASE gives students opportunities to lead and learn about social issues by working with local, state and global communities. After volunteering as a Learner Partner on three ASE programs, Summer fell in love with #ASEmagic. Today, she enjoys “working” with students to discover their leadership strengths through community engagement and service,

Summer has a deep history with the App family. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Women’s Studies from Appalachian State and a Masters of Art in Sociology from East Carolina University. Her graduate research focused on LGBTQ student services in higher education. After graduation, ECU hired her as the founding director of the first LGBT Resource Office at the university.  Summer loves the mountains and returned to App in 2013 as the Assistant Director of Alumni Affairs where she coordinated the Alumni Chapter Program and advised the Appalachian Student Ambassadors.
